Who cannot take Hyoscine patches?

  • You are pregnant.
  • Have thyroid, kidney, or liver problems.
  • Have myasthenia gravis (an illness that causes muscle weakness)
  • Have glaucoma.
  • If you have had a previous allergic reaction to Hyoscine
  • Have difficulty urinating or a bowel blockage.
  • Have heart problems including a fast heartbeat.
  • Have a temperature.
  • Have digestive problems such as acid reflux, constipation, or ulcerative colitis.

How does Hyoscine patches work?

Known as an antiemetic medicine they work by preventing signals from the balance centre in your ears to send signals to the vomiting centre in the brain this will reduce the likelihood of being sick.

Hyoscine patches dosage

One patch is stuck to the skin behind the ear 5 to 6 hours before the start of your journey. The patch is removed once the journey has finished or for longer journeys the patch can be kept on for 72 hours. If your journey is longer then 72 hours remove the old patch and apply a new patch behind the other ear this patch can be kept on for another 72 hours. Please follow your doctors or pharmacist’s advice before taking this medication.

  • Problem’s urinating (taking longer to empty your bladder or the feeling that the bladder is not empty after urinating).
