Norethisterone Tablets

Norethisterone tablets are used to delay your period safely for up to 17 days.

Who can’t take Norethisterone?

• Liver problems or liver cancer
• History of breast cancer
• If you are breastfeeding
• If you are pregnant
• Abnormal vaginal bleeding
• Had angina, stroke or a heart attack
• Metabolic disorder called porphyria

During your normal menstruation cycle the hormone progesterone naturally falls in levels. Norethisterone is a progesterone only tablet which works by maintaining the levels of progesterone in your body and by doing so delays the shedding of the womb lining therefore delaying your period.

The usual dose of Norethisterone is 1 tablet three times a day. The medication is started usually 3 days before you are expecting your next period. Norethisterone should not be taken for no more than 20 days consecutively. It can be taken for less if you do not want your period to be delayed for 17 days.

Once you stop taking Norethisterone your normal period occurs within 2 -3 days and your cycle should return to normal afterwards. Please follow your doctors or pharmacist’s advice before taking this medication.
