Zidoval Gel

Zidoval is a vaginal gel which contains the antibiotic Metronidazole which is used to treat bacterial vaginosis.

Who cannot use Zidoval gel?

• Are under 18 years old.
• If you have had a previous allergic reaction to Zidoval gel
• Are elderly.

The main symptom of bacterial vaginosis is discharge which has a strong fishy smell most often occurring after intercourse. The discharge is thin, watery and can have a white or grey colour. Bacterial vaginosis is caused by changes to the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina. The changes in the balance cause some bacteria to grow more and others to reduce. It is the overgrowth that leads to the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis. Zidoval works by killing the bacteria that cause overgrowth. This helps rebalance the natural bacteria in the vagina and therefore treat the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis.

Zidoval contains 5 applicators each containing metronidazole. The usual dose is one application of gel at bedtime for 5 days. The process is as follows: Wash your hands before and after using the gel. Pierce the sealed end of the tube with the cap Tighten the applicator onto the tube. Squeeze the tube to fill the applicator with gel. The plunger will move as the applicator fills and will stop moving once it has the required dose. Remove the applicator from the tube and insert into the vagina as far as it will go comfortably. Release the gel by pushing the plunger. Dispose the applicator.
