Dalacin Cream

Dalacin cream contains an antibiotic called Clindamycin. The cream is used to treat bacterial vaginosis.

Who cannot use Dalacin Cream?

• If you have had a previous allergic reaction to Dalacin cream
• Have a history of inflammatory bowel disease.

The main symptom of bacterial vaginosis is discharge which has a strong fishy smell most often occurring after intercourse. The discharge is thin, watery and can have a white or grey colour. Bacterial vaginosis is caused by changes to the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina. The changes in the balance cause some bacteria to grow more and others to reduce. It is the overgrowth that leads to the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis. Dalacin cream works by killing the bacteria that cause overgrowth. This helps rebalance the natural bacteria in the vagina and therefore treat the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis.

Dalacin cream comes with an applicator. A usual course can be between 3 to 7 days. Each dose is inserted into the vagina using the applicator preferably at night. The process is as follows:

• Lie on your back and insert the applicator gently into the vagina as far as possible without causing discomfort.
• Squeeze the cream into the applicator. The applicator is full when the plunger does not move further.
• Remove the cap from the tube.
• Wash your hands before and after using the cream and applicator.
• Screw a disposable applicator onto the tube.
• Unscrew the applicator.
• Push the plunger until the all the cream has been released.
